Faruk Kaymakci was born on March 21, 1968 in Tosya. After completing his elementary and secondary school education in Tosya, he graduated from the Department of Economics of the Faculty of Political Sciences of Ankara University in 1988.
He completed EU Studies at the University of Strasbourg in France and received his master's degree in EU Economics at the London School of Economics in England during 1989-1992 with the state scholarship awarded by the Ministry of National Education with the number 1416. Kaymakci also received his master's degree in EU Policies at the College of Europe (Brugge), where he studied from 1999 to 2000, with the scholarship awarded by the European Commission.
Starting to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994, Kaymakci served in the Balkans (1994-95), Multilateral Economic Organizations (1995-96), Policy Planning (2002-03) and EU (2008) General Directorates. He also served as the Special Counselor to Foreign Affairs and Director of Communications at the Ministry of EU Affairs from 2009 to 2011.
Having served abroad at the Tripoli Embassy (1997-99), Senior Civilian Representative of NATO in Afghanistan (2004-05), and the Permanent Representative of Turkey to the European Union three times (1999-02, 2005-08, 2017-18) in 2011, he was the Consulate General of Turkey in Basra from October 2013 to January 2017 and the Ambassador of Turkey to Baghdad from October 2013 to January 2017. Ambassador Kaymakci was appointed as the Permanent Representative of Turkey to the EU in February 2017, and also served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs in August 2018.
Ambassador Kaymakcı was awarded the NATO meritorious Service Medal in Afghanistan in 2004, and became one of the three College graduates being suggested for the Award of Alumni of the Year of European College in 2007.
